Physical Empathy: Patience and Non-Assumption in Partner Dance 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am EST
Do you ever feel nervous asking someone to dance? Or during the dance? Me too!
In this workshop we will explore ways to express and show compassion and empathy for each other, and ourselves, on the dance floor. Starting from before we even arrive at the party.
Using the principles of patience and non-assumption, we create more space for ourselves and our partners to simply exist. And in that simple, quiet space, we can find our magic.
The class will include some discussion, as well as exercises on how to approach and begin a dance, what to do during a dance, how to end a dance, and how to think about the dances we have. While the focus will be on Brazilian Zouk application, the principles can apply to all partner dances.

🌶️ 🌶️ Medium: The workshop invites sensuality, moving touch, cuddles, or extended close physical contact with others, but does NOT invite sexuality or nudity.

Friday January 10, 2025 1:30pm - 3:00pm EST
Ry’el will take you on a fun journey through the feeling of Brazilian Zouk Lambada in chronological order—from its origins to present day.  The goal of this workshop is to provide leaders and followers alike, a seamless flow within a structure.  We will learn the dance through 3  kinetic geometrical “alphabets”— circle, line and diagonals— taking your dancing from print to cursive through a series of fundamental steps and combinations, developing smooth transitions and flow between each one of them.

🌶️ Mild: The workshop does not invite sensuality or sexuality. There will be no facilitator invitations to cuddle or share moving touch, plus no welcoming or invoking of sexual energy. Any partner dancing that occurs will default to or center open position.

MicroZouk: Exploring Principles of Touch in Brazilian Zouk 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 3:30pm - 5:00pm EST
At first glance, Zouk might look like big flashy hair whips, serpent-like body rolls, and gravity-defying tilted one-footed spins! And it is all that! But there’s also a tiny little world of intricate pathways that we explore in each other's bodies that are sometimes even imperceptible to people watching.  In this class, we will explore those pathways. We’ll explore principles of touch, frameworks for exploring micro-movements, and lots of exercises to help you be more mindful, creative, and comfortable while dancing zouk in close embrace.

🌶️ 🌶️  Medium-spicy (The workshop invites extended close physical contact with others significantly more so than usual): The workshop invites sensuality, moving touch, cuddles, or extended close physical contact with others, but does NOT invite sexuality or nudity.

Zouk Triads and More! Dancing with More Than One Partner 🌶️
Saturday January 11, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am EST
In this class, we’ll explore a few basics, with a twist! While Brazilian Zouk is primarily a partner dance, it’s not uncommon to see three, four, or as many as 50 people all dancing together, leading and following across the dance floor!  The first time I saw a lead with two follows, I was transfixed.  And when I first tried to do it on my own, the challenge actually helped me improve my one-on-one leading because I was more aware of both sides of my body!
We will explore a few basic moves, with one lead and two follows.  All participants will learn how to play all three roles.  If things move quickly with the class, we may explore movements with two leads and one follow!

🌶️ Mild: The workshop does not invite sensuality or sexuality. There will be no facilitator invitations to cuddle or share moving touch, plus no welcoming or invoking of sexual energy. Any partner dancing that occurs will default to or center open position.
