Physical Empathy: Patience and Non-Assumption in Partner Dance 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am EST
Do you ever feel nervous asking someone to dance? Or during the dance? Me too!
In this workshop we will explore ways to express and show compassion and empathy for each other, and ourselves, on the dance floor. Starting from before we even arrive at the party.
Using the principles of patience and non-assumption, we create more space for ourselves and our partners to simply exist. And in that simple, quiet space, we can find our magic.
The class will include some discussion, as well as exercises on how to approach and begin a dance, what to do during a dance, how to end a dance, and how to think about the dances we have. While the focus will be on Brazilian Zouk application, the principles can apply to all partner dances.

🌶️ 🌶️ Medium: The workshop invites sensuality, moving touch, cuddles, or extended close physical contact with others, but does NOT invite sexuality or nudity.

Brazilian Zouk & Lambada Intensive (Add-On)
Friday January 10, 2025 1:30pm - 3:30pm EST
APPLY HERERegistration for this add-on requires meeting prerequisites and completing an application process.
For the fourth consecutive year we will be offering our unique Brazilian Zouk program at Interfusion Festival. The first Intensives were an amazing experience and this time we want to make it even better by bringing in new instructors to contribute with their teachings. This year we will explore the dance’s origins in the Lambada through new and innovative adaptations that Brazilian Zouk dancers will find familiar.

This year’s intensive will be a deep dive into:
  • Incorporating Lambada concepts into one’s Zouk dancing;
  • Remixing the concepts through dancing Lambada to a variety of musical styles;
  • Adapting Lambada moves to expand our head movement and footwork vocabulary, and;
  • Identifying the connections between the two timings.

Intensive Qualifications
In light of the higher complexity of the topics, the Zouk Intensive was designed for more experienced dancers, who fulfill at least two of the requirements below:
  • Have at least 2 years of continuous*, or 4 years of combined Brazilian Zouk experience
  • Able to execute Brazilian Zouk fundamentals with ease and fluency
  • Able to execute Brazilian Zouk basic head movement with ease and fluency.
*By continuous we mean that the dancer did not take long breaks since they’ve started learning, that the dancer goes to classes, socials, training and other learning experiences consistently. Interruptions due to the past few years are understandable and can be mentioned in your application.

APPLY HERERegistration for this add-on requires meeting prerequisites and completing an application process. In order to participate, it is necessary to have a full pass for the Festival. After submitting your application and responding to the check-out questions in full, your request will be assessed by the Interfusion Zouk Team. If additional information is required, such as a video of your dance, it will be communicated to you by email. If you do not meet the qualifications for the intensive this year, you will receive a full refund of the intensive ticket.

MicroZouk: Exploring Principles of Touch in Brazilian Zouk 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 3:30pm - 5:00pm EST
At first glance, Zouk might look like big flashy hair whips, serpent-like body rolls, and gravity-defying tilted one-footed spins! And it is all that! But there’s also a tiny little world of intricate pathways that we explore in each other's bodies that are sometimes even imperceptible to people watching.  In this class, we will explore those pathways. We’ll explore principles of touch, frameworks for exploring micro-movements, and lots of exercises to help you be more mindful, creative, and comfortable while dancing zouk in close embrace.

🌶️ 🌶️  Medium-spicy (The workshop invites extended close physical contact with others significantly more so than usual): The workshop invites sensuality, moving touch, cuddles, or extended close physical contact with others, but does NOT invite sexuality or nudity.

Zouk Triads and More! Dancing with More Than One Partner 🌶️
Saturday January 11, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am EST
In this class, we’ll explore a few basics, with a twist! While Brazilian Zouk is primarily a partner dance, it’s not uncommon to see three, four, or as many as 50 people all dancing together, leading and following across the dance floor!  The first time I saw a lead with two follows, I was transfixed.  And when I first tried to do it on my own, the challenge actually helped me improve my one-on-one leading because I was more aware of both sides of my body!
We will explore a few basic moves, with one lead and two follows.  All participants will learn how to play all three roles.  If things move quickly with the class, we may explore movements with two leads and one follow!

🌶️ Mild: The workshop does not invite sensuality or sexuality. There will be no facilitator invitations to cuddle or share moving touch, plus no welcoming or invoking of sexual energy. Any partner dancing that occurs will default to or center open position.

Sunday January 12, 2025 1:30pm - 3:00pm EST
Starting with body conditioning, we will connect with the power of the imagination wherein we will use the elements of nature to explore your natural, organic flow with your own movements. We will aim to create movements from within, to achieve greater expressions for Brazilian Zouk, with this perspective in mind: How you feel is how you move.

We will also explore the freedom of moving together, finding ways of expressing the upper body and arms while remaining with the Brazilian Zouk fundamentals.

🌶️ Mild: The workshop does not invite sensuality or sexuality. There will be no facilitator invitations to cuddle or share moving touch, plus no welcoming or invoking of sexual energy. Any partner dancing that occurs will default to or center open position.
