The Dance of Thai Massage 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am EST
This workshop will emphasize flow in Thai massage, as you lift, move, and sink, letting gravity and breath guide your movements while you drop into the physical connection between giver and receiver. Students will embody both roles. Note that there will be more bodily connection in this sequence, and while Thai massage can feel intimate, it is not sexual. Bring a massage partner, or find one in class that you feel comfortable with.

🌶️ 🌶️ Medium: The workshop invites sensuality, moving touch, cuddles, or extended close physical contact with others, but does NOT invite sexuality or nudity.

Physical Empathy: Patience and Non-Assumption in Partner Dance 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am EST
Do you ever feel nervous asking someone to dance? Or during the dance? Me too!
In this workshop we will explore ways to express and show compassion and empathy for each other, and ourselves, on the dance floor. Starting from before we even arrive at the party.
Using the principles of patience and non-assumption, we create more space for ourselves and our partners to simply exist. And in that simple, quiet space, we can find our magic.
The class will include some discussion, as well as exercises on how to approach and begin a dance, what to do during a dance, how to end a dance, and how to think about the dances we have. While the focus will be on Brazilian Zouk application, the principles can apply to all partner dances.

🌶️ 🌶️ Medium: The workshop invites sensuality, moving touch, cuddles, or extended close physical contact with others, but does NOT invite sexuality or nudity.

Unlocking Self Expression: Solo Open Form Movement 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 9:00am - 10:30am EST
“A solo practice is centered around building a relationship with our imagination”
-Tom Weklser
In this experience, we explore how you move as an individual. While we may occasionally work with others, our primary focus is on making you a more efficient and creative mover. We utilize a practice that explores the common denominators amongst movement disciplines, showing how the same drill can teach a yogi, dancer, acrobat, or even a couch potato to ground, float, meld, mold, or develop any other skill or quality we want through the lens of play. We call this practice "movement."

Your guides will be Dr. Harnoor Singh (@movementwithnoor), a doctor of physical therapy, and Logan DiTillo (@logamotion), a nomadic movement teacher and acrobat. They are well-educated and extremely welcoming teachers of this art. Their goal is to guide you through a playful, eye-opening, and liberating hour and a half of Solo Movement.

🌶️ Mild: The workshop does not invite sensuality or sexuality. There will be no facilitator invitations to cuddle or share moving touch, plus no welcoming or invoking of sexual energy. Any partner dancing that occurs will default to or center open position.

The Ground of Self: Contact Improvisation Series I/III 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm EST
Join us for three sessions where we'll explore, learn, and grow together in Contact Improvisation. Whether you're new to this dance form or looking to deepen your skills, these sessions will provide a supportive space for discovery and development.
We'll focus on enhancing our understanding of Contact Improvisation*, aiming to foster a greater sense of openness and ease in our movements, paying attention to the improvisational and relational skills involved in the practice, for authentic and in-depth exploratory processes.
We'll explore the biomechanics underlying Contact Improvisation dancing, through somatic explorations, enhancing our technical proficiency. Furthermore, we'll explore expanding our presence and refining our sensory listening and attention skills. This will establish a spacious canvas of shared awareness, serving as the foundation of our being together, that facilitates new ways of relating, expressing and collaborating safely in a non-verbal way. Before doing and wanting we want to emphasize our ability to be and to participate, connecting and nourishing a common ground,
from which the emergence of our creative embodiments and synergy of voices can happen.
We foster a welcoming space, devoid of judgment and expectation, a secure container that embraces diverse expressions and embodiments, enabling agency and consensual interactions, towards presence, creative discovery, and dancing.
Day 1: We will explore the possibility of anchoring our movements in clear yet dynamic “roots”, which allows for the emergence of definition and stability while liberating a wide range of possibilities and effortless motion when improvising with a partner in contact.

Day 2: Our focus will be on aerial alignments that support our body's structure, facilitating weight sharing and enabling graceful suspensions and gentle flights.

Day 3: We will play developing creative dances emphasizing the dynamic interplay between kinaesthetic elements and individual creative expression. Intuitively meeting the others, synchronizing and creatively co-creating embodied dialogues.

To get the full benefit of Irene’s facilitation and support the possibility of an in-depth development of the process we suggest you attend all three sessions.

* In CONTACT IMPROVISATION we move with one or more partners, relating and understanding each other through sensory listening without adhering to fixed sequences and roles. We learn to physically relate and communicate through fine-tuning and touch, dynamically traveling together through space, and combining our bodies closely, exploring all levels from standing to the floor. This practice encompasses solo, partnering, and group dancing, fostering creative skills through embodied and sensorial connections.

🌶️ 🌶️  Medium: The workshop invites sensuality, moving touch, cuddles, or extended close physical contact with others, but does NOT invite sexuality or nudity.

Authentic Self-Relating: Trauma and our Many Selves 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 11:00am - 12:30pm EST
In this workshop, I’ll introduce a unique perspective on the mind that opens the door to self-compassion and self-understanding rather than judgment and shame. We'll explore the nature of trauma, how it impacts the many parts (selves) within each of us, and how we can form compassionate relationships with our parts to help them heal.
We'll discuss a unique therapeutic and self-growth approach called Internal Family Systems (IFS), which is a wonderful technique to help us get in touch with our true selves, see the big picture, and get to know our minds in a more intimate way.

We’ll then do some experiential exercises to guide everyone through discovering some of their parts, as well as forming initial relationships with them. We’ll encourage some brief shares by those who are willing to do so, followed by some Q&A as time permits.

🌶️ Mild: The workshop does not invite sensuality or sexuality. There will be no facilitator invitations to cuddle or share moving touch, plus no welcoming or invoking of sexual energy. Any partner dancing that occurs will default to or center open position.

Ry’el will take you on a fun journey through the feeling of Brazilian Zouk Lambada in chronological order—from its origins to present day.  The goal of this workshop is to provide leaders and followers alike, a seamless flow within a structure.  We will learn the dance through 3  kinetic geometrical “alphabets”— circle, line and diagonals— taking your dancing from print to cursive through a series of fundamental steps and combinations, developing smooth transitions and flow between each one of them.

🌶️ Mild: The workshop does not invite sensuality or sexuality. There will be no facilitator invitations to cuddle or share moving touch, plus no welcoming or invoking of sexual energy. Any partner dancing that occurs will default to or center open position.

Brazilian Zouk & Lambada Intensive (Add-On)
Friday January 10, 2025 1:30pm - 3:30pm EST
APPLY HERERegistration for this add-on requires meeting prerequisites and completing an application process.
For the fourth consecutive year we will be offering our unique Brazilian Zouk program at Interfusion Festival. The first Intensives were an amazing experience and this time we want to make it even better by bringing in new instructors to contribute with their teachings. This year we will explore the dance’s origins in the Lambada through new and innovative adaptations that Brazilian Zouk dancers will find familiar.

This year’s intensive will be a deep dive into:
  • Incorporating Lambada concepts into one’s Zouk dancing;
  • Remixing the concepts through dancing Lambada to a variety of musical styles;
  • Adapting Lambada moves to expand our head movement and footwork vocabulary, and;
  • Identifying the connections between the two timings.

Intensive Qualifications
In light of the higher complexity of the topics, the Zouk Intensive was designed for more experienced dancers, who fulfill at least two of the requirements below:
  • Have at least 2 years of continuous*, or 4 years of combined Brazilian Zouk experience
  • Able to execute Brazilian Zouk fundamentals with ease and fluency
  • Able to execute Brazilian Zouk basic head movement with ease and fluency.
*By continuous we mean that the dancer did not take long breaks since they’ve started learning, that the dancer goes to classes, socials, training and other learning experiences consistently. Interruptions due to the past few years are understandable and can be mentioned in your application.

APPLY HERERegistration for this add-on requires meeting prerequisites and completing an application process. In order to participate, it is necessary to have a full pass for the Festival. After submitting your application and responding to the check-out questions in full, your request will be assessed by the Interfusion Zouk Team. If additional information is required, such as a video of your dance, it will be communicated to you by email. If you do not meet the qualifications for the intensive this year, you will receive a full refund of the intensive ticket.

MicroZouk: Exploring Principles of Touch in Brazilian Zouk 🌶️ 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 3:30pm - 5:00pm EST
At first glance, Zouk might look like big flashy hair whips, serpent-like body rolls, and gravity-defying tilted one-footed spins! And it is all that! But there’s also a tiny little world of intricate pathways that we explore in each other's bodies that are sometimes even imperceptible to people watching.  In this class, we will explore those pathways. We’ll explore principles of touch, frameworks for exploring micro-movements, and lots of exercises to help you be more mindful, creative, and comfortable while dancing zouk in close embrace.

Sacral Alchemy Ceremony: Manifestation through Liberation 🌶️
Friday January 10, 2025 3:30pm - 5:00pm EST
Our sacral chakra is an energy center that houses the most powerful and potent energy in our bodies. It is the nectar from which life is created: whether that is human life, art, music, creativity or in pursuit of our dreams and purpose in this world. It is also a space that often holds many of our deepest woundings, shame and blockages.  Manifestation using our creative life force energy asks for our channels to be clear and to attune our sacral, heart and highest consciousness to one another.

In this journey together, I will take you on an embodied experience of visualization, breath work and energy activation to liberate and open your channel.  Our ceremony will close with a powerful meditation connecting you to womb consciousness, the portal of all creation, honoring the sacred, divine essence within us all.

Day 1 - Precision Icarian
The first day we will focus on cleaning up Icarian skills to make them precise and tempo-able. Expect to refine skills you have done before - working towards mastery of these skills. We will also incorporate some unique pops and drills you may not have worked on before! This lesson will build towards linking skills together for seamless icarian flows.

Prereqs: Straight throws in bird and throne

Day 2 - Whip Mastery
We will work towards building whip technique for more dynamic skills. We have specific techniques that we have learned from teachers all over the world as well as developed through our own training that we love to share. This lesson will give you a deeper understanding of these skills and all of the building blocks needed for progressing toward more dynamic whip pops. We will touch on nervous system regulation, dynamic spotting, and how to keep these skills safe.

Prereqs: Comfort in bird, throne, reverse bird, and reverse throne. Some experience attempting whips is helpful.

Day 3 - Jump Start your Whip Pops
Whether you’ve done a handful of whip pops, or you’re still working towards your first one, this class will have content for you. We will have a short recap of the first two lessons leading into dynamic entries in and out of whips. Multiple levels of content will be offered and students can work at their own pace. Our goal is to offer a clear and safe pathway - it is most important to us for our students to learn when they are ready for the next progression, and when they need to continue repping out certain drills.

Prereqs: Comfort with whips, and basic icarian transitions such as bird to throne. Doing the first two workshops covers these prereqs.

Learn this advanced, trauma-informed, and pleasure-focused sexual communication technique and become a hero for all future partners! “Rolling out the red carpet for No” is not a consent technique; it's a way of being that addresses the realities of social power dynamics. It means making it as pleasurable to say no to you as it is to say yes! Activities include rejection experiences, dyad shares, role play scenarios, a game, and small group discussions. Participants emerge with a new language for navigating sexual encounters that transcends affirmative consent and traditional gender roles. They leave better communicators: more trauma-informed, pleasure-focused, and self-aware.

During the jam there may be periods of silence and periods of live improvised musical accompaniment from invited musicians.  In these moments we invite you to also treat music as a dance partner that touches everyone in conversation.  Participants with musical instruments and interest may have an opportunity to join the conversation with permission of the invited musicians. Kindly you may bring your instruments.

While the primary focus of the space is contact improvisation, solo and partnered improvisational movement of other forms is welcome when it fits in the ground rules.

Ground Rules:
  • Practice Nonverbal & Verbal Consent
  • Activate Deep Listening: Practice attunement to self, partner(s), and others in the space
  • Observation is Welcome
  • Solo Movement is Welcome
  • Keep conversations and other interpersonal interactions to the peripheries
  • Please be mindful of sound especially after 11:30pm as the sound here travels through the entire hotel.

“Contact Improvisation is a dance form based on the communication between two or more moving bodies that are in physical contact and their combined relationship to the physical laws that govern their motion—gravity, momentum, inertia.” - Nancy Stark Smith
